SUMMARY:Funding for Photonics
DESCRIPTION:Today many of the Photonics companies can get funding from VC\, Business Angels\, and Public Funding (both national and international). For that you don’t need to be excellent you just need to be outstanding from many others. What is also important is to have a chance to meet with the investors and to raise their interest. \n\n\n\nFunding for Photonics is the second-time event specially designed to help Finnish Photonics companies to find financial partners. It is the series of events organized by Photonics Finland aimed to raise the awareness of investors and funding bodies on the advanced companies in the field delivering top-notch and groundbreaking technologies and products. \n\n\n\nFinal Program \n\n\n\n9:00 – 9:30 Registration & coffee \n\n\n\n9:30 – 10:00 Jyrki Saarinen\, UEF/PREIN – Photonics & PREIN flagship \n\n\n\n10:00 – 10:20 Inka Mero\, Voima Ventures – Venture Capital \n\n\n\n10:20 – 10:35 Rene Kromhof – FiBAN / From scale up to Bexit \n\n\n\n10:35 – 10:50 Harri Palviainen\, Business Joensuu – StartUp Fund Joensuu \n\n\n\n10:50 – 11:10 Public Funding from Finland and EU – Business Finland \n\n\n\n11:10 – 11:20 Case Example: Building Hospital Ship Re-Imagined Co-Creation & Co-Innovation project\, Tuomas Mäkilä\, Allied ICT Finland / University of Turku \n\n\n\n11:20 – 11:45 Jyrki Huttunen\, CEO Oplatek Oy – Old-school Business Funding \n\n\n\n11:45 – 12:00 Marianne Hiltunen – VTT funding cases \n\n\n\n12:00 – 13:15 Lunch break \n\n\n\nStart-Up Companies Pitch \n\n\n\n6 minutes talk + 4 minutes for questions \n\n\n\n13:15 – 13:25 Emberion – https://www.emberion.com/Presenter: Jyri Hämäläinen\n\n\n\n13:25 – 13:35 Hypermemo – http://www.hypermemo.fi/ Presenter: Sergey Sedykh & Vadim Kiyko\n\n\n\n13:35 – 13:45 PillarHall – www.pillarhall.com Presenter: Mikko Utriainen \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nProjects\, and TUTLi projects Pitch \n\n\n\n6 minutes talk + 4 minutes for questions \n\n\n\n 13:45 – 13:55 OPTOSENSE – Optical Sensing of Relative Humidity Using Photoswitchable Molecules Presenter: Matti Virkki & Arri Priimägi https://www.tuni.fi/en/research/optical-sensing-relative-humidity-using-photoswitchable-molecules-optosense \n\n\n\n 13:55 – 14:05 FluoroTrust – Inkless Fluorescent TagsPresenter: Martti Leino & Mahammad Bitarafan \n\n\n\n 14:05 – 14:15 Stealthligth – https://www.kryfiox.com/ Presenter: Jeremias Seppä\n\n\n\n14:15 – 14:25 Pixpolar – http://www.pixpolar.com/ Presenter: Miikka Parviainen & Vladislav Marochkin\n\n\n\nEmberion designs and produces high-performance infrared imagers based on nanomaterials and in-house designed CMOS integrated circuits. Our primary products are infrared sensors and camera cores for VIS-SWIR (400-2000 nm) and thermal (MWIR & LWIR) imaging. Emberion’s products combine high performance with competitive cost level and thus enable new application areas for infrared imaging. Emberion’s VIS-SWIR products are relevant for various applications within night & machine vision as well as hyperspectral imaging. Examples of specific applications where we enable novel sensing performance are food & plastic sorting and agriculture monitoring and on longer term we will enable also novel autonomous car and medical imaging solutions.  Emberion is co-located in Cambridge\, UK\, and Espoo\, Finland and we are a member of the European Graphene Flagship program. Emberion is an independent SME spin-out from Nokia’s R&D based on venture capital funding from Verso Ventures and co-founded with Emberion employees. \n\n\n\nHypermemo is the world’s pioneer in short-pulsed Q-switched high-power CO2 lasers\, which actually work. Existing gas lasers can’t work in short-pulse Q-switched modes. The reason is the high energy absorption in electro- and acousto-optical modulators\, which makes them overheat and collapse in lasers with more than 10W of average power output. We have solved this issue and developed the GLAZER technology\, which is backed by 10+ years of scientific research and equipment development. GLAZER provides around 15 times excess of the peak power over the average power\, with a pulse frequency of 10-60 kHz and a pulse duration of 200-400 ns. This allows converting the CO2 laser into a highly versatile tool for brittle materials processing.  GLAZER is based on our unique patented laser\, matched with our automation technology for 3D glass machining\, ready for the Industry 4.0.The major product idea behind GLAZER: a multi-purpose CNC technology for many glass types and processing operations. Digitally reconfigurable to adopt new processes and materials. New process => new software update => agile manufacturing 3 times less equipment footprint\, 90% less consumables\, 80% less waste. \n\n\n\nPillarHall is a registered trademark for the unique Lateral High Aspect Ratio Silicon Test Chip for ultra thin film conformality characterization. The approach allows significant speed\, cost and accuracy improvement for 3D nanometrology when compared to the state-of-art. Technology and the team originate from VTT Micronova. Sales traction has been proven in international markets. The entry market focus is fast-growing Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) market\, where the team and Finland has strong expertise and long background. Spin out process from VTT is on-going. \n\n\n\nOPTOSENSE aims at developing a remote\, all-optical detection scheme for measuring relative humidity and temperature. The proposed method relies on following the thermal isomerization kinetics of photoswitchable molecules embedded into an optically transparent matrix\, which acts as the active sensing layer. The kinetics is sensitive to the presence of water molecules\, which diffuse into the active sensing layer from the measurement environment\, providing the basis for the proposed humidity-sensing concept. Combinations of different molecules and sensing wavelengths allow for simultaneous measurement of temperature within a single sensing layer. In the proof-of-concept device\, the sensing material will be integrated into a (mm-scale) fiber-optic sensing head\, offering a simple solution based on low-cost materials for simultaneous temperature and humidity sensing.  \n\n\n\nFluoroTrust aims to develop and commercialize an innovative and sophisticated technology to combat counterfeiting. In this technology\, a proprietary film –which can be coated on a variety of substrates– is exposed to a proper light source\, thus leading to the formation of fluorescent patterns within the film. These features can be used to reinforce the security level of identity documents and other records. They can also be applied to products in the form of micro-scale\, invisible\, fluorescent patterns. The latter allows manufacturers to serialize their production\, and track-and-trace each item through the supply chain\, regardless of the packaging stage or condition. Thanks to the invisibility of these tags\, the appearance and beauty of the products\, which is particularly crucial in luxury items\, is not compromised. This method of brand protection not only improves the customer’s trust in the brand and its products\, but it also leads to a markedly reduced impact of counterfeit products on the sales of the brands. More importantly\, there will be less harm to people through substandard food and medicine. \n\n\n\nStealthligth provides Controlled Range Illumination\, for security/defense and possibly also for civilian use (e.g. light pollution reduction or other innovative applications). The idea is that we can limit how far light travels. Some defense-oriented stuff is also at VTT Launchpad web pages. Especially in defense situations you could want to illuminate your local surroundings without observers further away noticing light use. TUTLI ends this month\, and we have now entered a VTT Launchpad backed incubator or accelerator phase. \n\n\n\nPixpolar has developed a new revolutionary image sensor technology based on patented MIG (Modified Internal Gate) pixel architecture and delivering superior low light image quality when compared to any other image sensor technology. The manufacturing of MIG image sensors is compatible to existing CMOS processes enabling the readout and digital logic circuitry as well as the MIG pixel matrix to be incorporated into the same chip. \n\n\n\n The event is organized by Business Joensuu\, PREIN\, and Photonics Finland \n\n\n\nThe participation is free of charge. \n\n\n\nThe registration link: https://tinyurl.com/y2qyttr3
