SUMMARY:Trade and Innovation Mission to Southampton and Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:The UK (Scotland in particular) has evolved into a vibrant hub for photonic and silicon photonic innovation. For Finnish companies looking to expand their technological expertise\, access new markets\, or form strategic alliances\, Scotland offers several compelling advantages. Scotland’s photonic and silicon photonic industry offers a synergistic environment rich with research excellence\, collaborative networks\, and supportive governmental policies. \n\n\n\nThe complementary industrial capabilities and shared innovation culture make the region not just a market to enter but a strategic partner for long-term growth and technological advancement. Please visit the Technology Scotland website to see a full list of Technology Scotland members.\, and to learn more about the Scottish Photonics sector\, read this report Photonics in Scotland 2024 Report.  \n\n\n\nSouthampton is home to Europe’s densest academia-to-industry photonics hub\, anchored by the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) and the Cornerstone Photonics Innovation Centre\, which offers open-access silicon-photonics pilot lines. These centers lead global research in areas such as silicon photonics\, optical fibers\, III-V semiconductors\, 2D materials and metamaterials. They also collaborate with over 40 companies across sectors like telecommunications\, healthcare\, aerospace\, and defense\, offering Finnish companies a direct gateway to high-value industrial partnerships. \n\n\n\nWith this visit\, we intend to focus on increasing international collaboration and raise awareness of business opportunities in Finland for companies and research organizations. \n\n\n\nWHY JOIN? \n\n\n\nJoining this delegation offers companies a unique opportunity to access cutting-edge research and innovation in photonics and silicon photonics. By visiting key academic and industrial hubs in Southampton and Scotland\, businesses can gain insights into the latest technological advancements and explore potential collaborations with world-renowned institutions and companies. \n\n\n\nWHO SHOULD ATTEND? \n\n\n\nThis visit is aimed for Finnish Photonics companies\, who want to develop co-operation or look for new partners in the UK. Also\, research organizations which aim to expand their collaboration with UK companies and research organizations in Photonics are warmly welcome to join. \n\n\n\nPRACTICALITIES\n\n\n\nTo cover the expenses of arranging the visit program in the UK\, Business Finland will charge participation fees of:  \n\n\n\n\nMajor Companies: 1000 EUR + 25\,5% VAT per person\n\n\n\nMicro Businesses and SMEs: 850 EUR + 25\,5% VAT per person\n\n\n\n\nBusiness Finland will invoice the participants after the visit based on the actual costs.
