SUMMARY:Training on Spectral Imaging and its Applications
DESCRIPTION:What to expect \n\n\n\nSpectral imaging is powerful tool in modern science\, machine vision\, medicine\, industry\, agriculture\, forestry\, arts\, and many other areas of modern human activities. Spectral imaging provides an easy way to compare and distinguish objects which look similar to human eyes\, but actually different. \n\n\n\nThis one-day hands-on training course provides opportunity to understand how you can apply spectral imaging in your own field: science\, industry\, biology\, medicine\, arts. The course will focus on three technology demonstrations: \n\n\n\n\nSpectra and spectroscopy – a simple way to distinguish objects;\n\n\n\nSpectral cameras and their application;\n\n\n\nSpectral data processing using non-commercial software (on example of Python).\n\n\n\n\nCourse attendees will learn how they could arrange spectral measurements and spectral data processing in their own field. \n\n\n\nCourse outcomes \n\n\n\n\nGet the idea what is a light spectrum and what is spectral data.\n\n\n\nLearn how spectral cameras allow to get images where each spatial pixel is spectrum\n\n\n\nLearn that processing of spectal data is very similar to processing of traditional photos and RGB images (such as png\, bmp\, jpg\, etc)\n\n\n\nUnderstanding how spectral imaging can be applied in modern science\, medicine or industry\n\n\n\n\nCourse audience \n\n\n\nIt is desirable that course attendees have a basic understanding of photonics: light\, light spectrum\, infrared light\, wavelengths. Understanding of programming at basic level is required: variables and arrays\, for loops\, if else\, numerical data formats (such as integers and floats). Understanding of image processing is desirable but not essential. \n\n\n\nThis training is meant for people who would benefit from knowledge on imaging technologies\, new comers in photonics companies\, but also people using imaging for health\, agrifood\, waste management\, etc… \n\n\n\nAttendee experience \n\n\n\nNo previous experience necessary.

SUMMARY:Light for Families - Valoa Perheille
DESCRIPTION:“Light for Families” family event \n\n\n\nThis autumn\, we will dive into the fascinating world of insects – through light at Art Garden Botania in Joensuu\, Finland. \n\n\n\nUniversity of Eastern Finland\, together with University of Eastern Finland’s LUMA Center and the Photonics Flagship PREIN\, invites you to participate in the “Light for Families” family event on Saturday\, 8 November 2025\, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Joensuu’s Art Garden Botania! \n\n\n\nThe “Light for Families” event is being organised for the fifth time\, and year after year it has grown in popularity while bringing photonics – the science of light – closer to children and young people. \n\n\n\nThis autumn\, we will dive into the fascinating world of insects – through light. The theme focuses on small but important insects and studying them with the tools of photonics. A day full of fun and insightful activities awaits the whole family! \n\n\n\nFor children (approximately 3–12 years old)\, there will be an exciting adventure to uncover the secrets of the insect world using light science. The adventure is suitable for younger children together with an adult\, and for older ones to explore independently. \n\n\n\nDuring the day\, visitors can also make a traditional Father’s Day gift – naturally using photonics. In addition\, you can enjoy the enchanting surroundings of the Art Garden Botania\, where insects are bustling about and inspiring exploration. \n\n\n\nThe event is free of charge and open to everyone. Come and spend a bright autumn day with your family\, learn something new\, and celebrate Father’s Day in the company of insects and light! \n\n\n\nFor more information\, please contact Iiro Muhonen via email at iiro.muhonen@uef.fi or by phone at 050 324 2548.
