SUMMARY:Photonics meets KELLOSEPPÄKOULU
DESCRIPTION:Photonics meets The Finnish School of Watchmaking \n\n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\nTime: Tuesday\, May 16\, 2023 From 11:30 to 14:00 \n\n\n\nPlace: Vanha maantie 11\, Espoo (Leppävaara) \n\n\n\nThe event begins with open doors\, during which companies are invited to familiarize themselves with the possibilities of the watchmaking and fine mechanics line. At the end of the event\, from 14:00 to 16:00\, there will be a training session for the teachers of the Watchmaking School in using the Photonics Explorer Kit. \n\n\n\nProgram of the event \n\n\n\n11:30 coffee service12:00-14:00 Open doors: company tours at the watchmaking school14:00-16:00 Photonics Explorer Kit training for teachers \n\n\n\nThe Finnish School of Watchmaking (Kelloseppäkoulu) was founded in 1944 and is located in Leppävaara\, Espoo. It is maintained by Kellosepäntaidon Edistämissäätiö (The foundation for the advancement of watchmaking skills)\, but its operation is financed by the Finnish state. The teaching at the school is performed in Finnish. \n\n\n\nThe Finnish School of Watchmaking works in active cooperation with educational institutions which train European watchmakers\, and there are student exchanges with Nordic and Central European schools. The school also belongs to the Open Schools of Watchmaking (OSOW) network which assembles bi-annually for meetings arranged by the different member schools. \n\n\n\nThe Finnish School of Watchmaking works with reputable manufacturers so that students are able to perform controlled work-placements abroad. The school has agreements for regular apprenticeships with\, among others\, the Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi factory. \n\n\n\nRepresentatives of the Finnish School of Watchmaking participate in the annual Baselworld exhibition\, or invitations to exhibitions in Geneva. These are important for establishing and maintaining a good relationship between the school and the companies at the exhibitions. \n\n\n\nKELLOSEPPÄKOULU

SUMMARY:Optopub 2022 in Stockholm
DESCRIPTION:Speakers: \n\n\n\n2022 Nobel Prize in Physics: Entangled photonsMohamed Bourennane\, Professor\, Fysikum\, Stockholm University\, StockholmAlain Aspect\, John Clauser and Anton Zeilinger have been awarded the 2022 Nobel in physics “for experiments with entangled photons\, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science“. Aspect\, Clauser and Zeilinger have each conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states. Their results have cleared the way for new technology. The peculiar effects of quantum mechanics are starting to find applications. There is now a large field of research and technological development that includes quantum computers\, quantum imaging\, quantum sensing\, and secure quantum encrypted communication. The photonics play a central role in the so-called the second quantum revolution. \n\n\n\nLatest advancements at NILT on flat metalens based camera modules in near infraredFredrik Mattinson\, Senior Optical Designer\, NIL Technology ApS\, DenmarkNIL Technology (NILT) a solution provider of flat optics presents the latest achievements in meta optical elements (MOE) by demonstrating 94% absolute efficiency at 940 nm and successful demonstration of camera module. The design of the camera module has excellent performance compared to a refractive lens counterpart with exceptionally low f-number and high relative illumination (100%). The characterization of the performance of the meta optical lens (MOE lens) shows full agreement with the simulated performance of the nominal design. Tolerance analyses are provided to support the subsequent mass production using nano imprint lithography. The advancements towards mass production readiness are key areas for successful adoption of MOEs in various markets and applications. \n\n\n\nNobula3D’s technology and success storyMichael Fokine\, CSO Nobula3D AB\, Assoc. Prof. Applied Physics at KTH-Alba Nova\, StockholmGlass is an amazing material that is found in all parts of society. The wide spread use stems from the inherent properties of glass\, including optical transparency and high thermal\, mechanical\, and chemical stability. These unique properties however\, come at a cost. Processing glass requires very high temperatures and the hard and brittle material can be difficult to shape. Glass was considered the last frontier in additive manufacturing\, but in recent years a number of different glass 3D printing solutions have been presented. This talk will review our journey from idea to forming a start-up in glass 3D printing.   \n\n\n\nSuccess story for Best Photonics Company of 2022Lars Rymell\, CEO\, Eclipse Optics AB\, StockholmOver the years\, Eclipse Optics have completed hundreds of optical designs ready to be manufactured. With a deep knowledge in optics and image sensor technology Eclipse offers services spanning the entire chain from lens to finished image. Our customers can be found all over the world and on many different markets. We work with applications within automotive\, medtech\, safety/surveillance\, green technology and consumer products. We will describe the market for optics and photonics from Eclipse perspective. The main focus will be on 2023 and our thoughts about new trends and markets. \n\n\n\nFollowed by Optopub:  IEEE Photonics Chapter invites everyone who pre-registered for food and drinksPlease\, register Here by Monday 12th Dec kl.13:00 at the latest!                                        Welcome!Lennart BM Svensson (PS)  & Qin Wang (RISE) & Arne Alping (IEEE-Photonics Chapter)

SUMMARY:ICO - World Congress for Optics and Photonics
DESCRIPTION:FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS  The World General Congress for Optics and Photonics of the International Commission for Optics (ICO) and the international society on Optics Within Life Sciences (OWLS) will be celebrated from 5th September to 9th September 2022 in Dresden\, Germany. The TU Dresden is proud to host the World Congress ICO-25-OWLS-16-Dresden-Germany-2022. The main theme is “Advancing Society with Light”\, emphasizing the importance of modern light technology for society. The 60+ years anniversary of the laser will be celebrated too. Light has the potential to recognize the origins of diseases\, to prevent them\, or to cure them early and gently. This is one of the central topics of OWLS\, which was founded at the ICO-15 Congress in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1990. Therefore\, a special commemorative event of the 30+ years anniversary of the foundation of OWLS in Germany will be organized. SUMMARY:Integrated polymer photonics systems training
DESCRIPTION:Integrated polymer photonics systems are key building blocks in many disruptive product innovations like multidisciplinary environment and diagnostic sensors\, displays\, energy sources and wearable devices.This 3-day training course provides overview on the realization of functional systems using non conventional fabrication technologies based on polymer based materials and their printing and hybrid integration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHands on training includes the participation in the real production runs comprising component fabrication by nanoimprinting\, non photonic microfluidics and flexible electronics board fabrication\, hybrid integration of Si/compound semiconductor components on flexibile /stretchable carriers and post processing by roll to roll injection moulding During test runs\, functional components and systems are realized. \n\n\n\nPlease remember to make your registration 13th May at the latest! For more information see Here and registration Here.
