SUMMARY:OPD2024 WEEK: PhotonHub Europe training: Thick-SOI photonics for sensing and imaging
DESCRIPTION:Training description:Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) can be realized on many different technology platforms and used for numerous different applications. This course focuses on the so-called Thick-SOI platform and its use for sensing and imaging applications in the near and mid-infrared region. Primary focus is on 3 µm thick silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide technology\, which is the most mature PIC technology platform at VTT. This platform is also available for small-to-medium volume contract manufacturing via VTT. Process design kits are available in multiple PIC design software platforms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis one-day hands-on training course provides an overview of the Thick-SOI PIC platform and its feasibility in sensing and imaging applications. A clean room tour in Micronova offers an overview of the used fabrication methods and facilities. Hands-on training includes 1) the design of 3 µm SOI PICs using PIC design software\, 2) a tour in the clean room and 3) PIC testing in the photonics measurement lab. The last part includes semi-automated fiber-to-waveguide alignment\, optical beam steering with an optical phased array (OPA) and testing of silicon photonic chips. \n\n\n\nTarget audience:It is desirable but not essential that course attendees have a basic understanding of photonics. The course is ideally suited to those planning to develop new photonic products based on low-loss PICs operating within the 1.2-6 µm wavelength range where the thick (µm-scale) SOI waveguides can operate. Training is primarily intended for industrial participants\, but also academic participants and students are welcome. \n\n\n\nPrice: Price is 100 € until 15th April (early-bird price) and 200 € after that. \n\n\n\nSee the PDF slides for the event HERE\, and remember to make your registration HERE.

SUMMARY:PhotonHub Europe Training: Spectral imaging and its applications
DESCRIPTION:You thought black and white to RGB was a huge step? How about going hyperspectral? \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpectral imaging is powerful tool in modern science\, machine vision\, medicine\, industry\, agriculture\, forestry\, arts\, and many other areas of modern human activities. Spectral imaging provides an easy way to compare and distinguish objects which look similar to human eyes\, but actually different.  \n\n\n\nThis one-day hands-on training course provides opportunity to understand how you can apply spectral imaging in your own field: science\, industry\, biology\, medicine\, arts. \n\n\n\nThe course will focus on three technology demonstrations: \n\n\n\n\nSpectra and spectroscopy – a simple way to distinguish objects; \n\n\n\nSpectral cameras and their applications; \n\n\n\nSpectral data processing using non-commercial software (on example of Python). \n\n\n\n\nCourse attendees will learn how they could arrange spectral measurements and spectral data processing in their own field. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions\, contact Ana Gebejes by email: ana.gebejes(a)photonics.fi

SUMMARY:PhotonHub Europe training: Thick-SOI photonics for sensing and imaging
DESCRIPTION:Training description:Photonic integrated circuits (PICs) can be realized on many different technology platforms and used for numerous different applications. This course focuses on the so-called Thick-SOI platform and its use for sensing and imaging applications in the near and mid-infrared region. Primary focus is on 3 µm thick silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide technology\, which is the most mature PIC technology platform at VTT. This platform is also available for small-to-medium volume contract manufacturing via VTT. Process design kits are available in multiple PIC design software platforms. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis one-day hands-on training course provides an overview of the Thick-SOI PIC platform and its feasibility in sensing and imaging applications. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTarget audience:It is desirable but not essential that course attendees have a basic understanding of photonics. The course is ideally suited to those planning to develop new photonic products based on low-loss PICs operating within the 1.2-6 µm wavelength range where the thick (µm-scale) SOI waveguides can operate. Training is primarily intended for industrial participants\, but also academic participants and students are welcome. \n\n\n\nSee the PDF slides for the event HERE\, and remember to make your registration HERE.

SUMMARY:Fotoniikan kaupunkiekosysteemiprojektin (FKE) Kick off -tilaisuus
DESCRIPTION:Tervetuloa Fotoniikan kaupunkiekosysteemiprojektin (FKE) Kick off -tilaisuuteen Teamsin välityksellä. \n\n\n\nTilaisuus on avoin kaikille eikä siihen tarvitse erikseen ilmoittautua. Fotoniikan kaupunkiekosysteemi on yksi kuudesta vetovastuuhankkeesta. \n\n\n\nOhjelma \n\n\n\n13:00 13:05 Avaus  \n\n\n\n13:05 13:20 Innokaupungit ohjelma ja vetovastuu\, Tiina Ramstendt-Sen\, Pirkanmaan liitto \n\n\n\n13:20 13:30 Fotoniikan merkitys Joensuun kaupungille\, Seppo Tossavainen\, Joensuun kaupunki \n\n\n\n13:30 13:50 Developing international networks for Photonics\, Oliver Hussey\, Business Tampere \n\n\n\n13:50 14:00 Terveysteknologiat kehittyvät fotoniikan avulla\, Jussi Hiltunen\, VTT \n\n\n\n14:00 14:15 Fotoniikan kaupunkiekosysteemi hanke\, Juha Purmonen\, Business Joensuu \n\n\n\n14:15 14:25 Fotoniikka-alan yritykset joustavasti käsiksi olemassa olevaan tutkimusinfraan\, Christiina Liedert\, VTT \n\n\n\n14:25 14:45 EU Chips Act – Siruja Suomesta\, Kari Leino\, Business Finland \n\n\n\n14:45 15:00 Kysymykset ja loppukeskustelu FKE tiimi \n\n\n\nLINKKI TILAISUUTEEN
