The Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (ENS) is a leading research institution in nanoscience in Finland and hosts a well-equipped cleanroom dedicated to nanofabrication. The Metaplasmonics group has access to state-of-the-art optical spectroscopy and microscopy setups, a wide range of simulation tools, and a broad academic network in the field of nanophotonics. 

The Metaplasmonics group has been engaged in advanced nanophotonics, plasmonics, and metamaterials.  The group has recently expanded its interest to encompass research on metasurface-based devices.

Job description

We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher to develop metasurface-based devices. The work comprises the micro-nano fabrication and integration of metasurface, and optical characterization of the components and device. The position is supervised by Prof. Humeyra Caglayan and is placed at the Laboratory of Photonics within the Physics Unit of ENS.


We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates who have successfully completed a Ph.D. degree either in optics and photonics, physics, electrical engineering, or related subjects. Previous experience in the following areas is beneficial: e-beam lithography nanofabrication techniques and metasurfaces. The applicant should also be willing to carry out optical characterization experiments.

The position also requires:

Good English language skills (spoken and written)
Ability to conduct systematic scientific research
Ability to work in a team and communicate clearly in a multidisciplinary and international environment

We offer

The positions will be filled for a fixed-term period of 2 (with an option to +1) years. The starting date will be mutually agreed upon. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job demands and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the University Salary System. According to the criteria applied to teaching and research staff, the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher is placed on the job demands levels 5-6. In addition, employees receive performance based salary.  A typical starting salary of Postdoctoral Researcher is 3300-3600 EUR/month, depending on the researcher’s experience.
