The specific\u00a0job\u00a0scope, level, and location will be\u00a0considered and discussed\u00a0based\u00a0on your background,\u00a0expertise, and interests during the interview process.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the role and scope of responsibilities, positions offer flexibility to be based across\u00a0imec\u2019s\u00a0global sites, including Leuven (Belgium), Espoo (Finland), and Eindhoven (the Netherlands).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>About imec &amp; the teams<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Imec\u00a0is a global pioneer in integrated silicon photonics, built around its renowned\u00a0iSiPP\u00a0platform, PDKs, prototyping services, and low\u00a0volume manufacturing of silicon photonic ICs. By\u00a0leveraging\u00a0mature CMOS manufacturing processes,\u00a0imec\u00a0enables high\u00a0volume, high\u00a0yield, and cost\u00a0effective Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) on advanced 200\u202fmm and 300\u202fmm platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Our technologies are offered through wafer\u00a0level fabrication and design enablement services to industrial and academic partners active in telecom, datacom, computing systems, biomedical applications, quantum sensing, and beyond.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you will do<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depending on your profile, you will contribute to one or more of the following areas:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Active photonic devices\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research and development of ultrahigh speed modulators and detectors\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Exploration of novel device concepts, materials, and integration flows\u00a0<br \/>(e.g. Ge, GeSi, IIIV, BTO, LNO, organic materials)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Targeting ultra\u2011low power (&lt;\u202f1\u202fpJ\/bit) and\/or ultra\u2011high bitrate (\u2265\u202f400\u202fGbit\/s\/lane) applications<\/li>\n<li>Device physics modeling, simulation, layout, and experimental characterization\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Translating device concepts into library components for\u00a0imec\u2019s\u00a0PDKs\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Passive photonics, packaging &amp; co-packaged optics\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design of low loss passive components (Si, SiN, \u2026) for scalable photonic systems\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Development of chip-to\u2011chip and chip\u2011to\u2011fiber coupling structures\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Technology pathfinding for co-packaged optics and wafer scale interconnects\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Optical, mechanical, and reliability evaluation of packaged solutions\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Collaboration with material suppliers, EDAs, OSATs, and tool vendors\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lasers and Optical Amplifiers (III-V on Si)\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Design, modeling, simulation, layout, characterization of III\u2011V lasers, optical amplifiers, and LEDs integrated on silicon photonics platforms\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Wafer\u2011scale integration of InP\u2011 and GaAs\u2011based active devices (including MQW and MQD gain media) targeting optical interconnects, datacom, and future compute architectures\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>End\u2011to\u2011end active device development in close collaboration with process integration, assembly, test, and reliability teams, as well as external suppliers and partners<\/li>\n<li>Early\u2011stage reliability assessment, failure\u2011mode analysis, and lifetime improvement, with benchmarking against state\u2011of\u2011the\u2011art active photonic technologies<\/li>\n<li>Strategic contribution to\u00a0imec\u2019s\u00a0laser and active device integration roadmap, innovation generation, and results dissemination to internal stakeholders, customers, and partners\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Integrated photonics design &amp; platforms\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Designing, simulating, and laying out photonic components and PICs<\/li>\n<li>Translating customer requirements into system concepts and PIC architectures<\/li>\n<li>Setting up designs of experiments and following up on large scale characterization\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Analysing and visualizing performance data from die-to-die, wafer-to-wafer, and lot-to-lot\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Improving existing photonic platforms and contributing to the development of new ones\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Across all roles, you will:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Conceive, simulate, and\u00a0validate\u00a0novel photonic device and circuit concepts\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Design layouts and process experiments on 200\u202fmm and 300\u202fmm pilot lines\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate closely with system designers, IC designers, integration, test, and reliability teams\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Drive technologies from early concepts to manufacturable solutions\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Publish and patent impactful results and represent\u00a0imec\u00a0at leading conferences (e.g. OFC, ECOC)\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to\u00a0imec\u2019s\u00a0Silicon Photonics roadmap and industrial offerings\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Promote\u00a0knowledge sharing and improving design workflows and documentation\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What we do for you<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world\u2019s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.
