Photonics Finland has selected Nanocomp Oy Ltd as the Photonics Finland Company of the Year 2025. The recognition was traditionally announced at the OPD event, currently taking place in Jyväskylä, Finland.

The selection highlights Nanocomp’s long-term and pioneering contribution to the Finnish photonics industry. The company, which manufactures display technologies especially for the illumination of portable device displays, was praised for its strong technological expertise, continuous innovation, and long-standing commitment to developing the photonics sector. Attention was also drawn to the company’s new growth phase, investments aimed at strengthening international competitiveness, and the new production facilities under construction in Joensuu, where a topping-out ceremony was celebrated earlier this week.
Nanocomp is one of the success stories of the rapidly growing Finnish photonics industry. The company has originally spun out from the University of Eastern Finland. Close research collaboration has played a central role in building the company’s innovation capability and international growth for decades.
In recent years, the company has entered a new phase under new ownership. In addition to strong revenue growth, the company’s rapid expansion is reflected in its workforce, which grew by 30% during the past year alone. At the same time, Nanocomp is making significant investments in the future and in new production facilities in the GreenPark area of Joensuu. Nanocomp’s new growth phase, strong research background, and forward-looking investments make the company an excellent example of the international potential of Finnish photonics expertise.
– We would like to thank Photonics Finland for this recognition, which belongs to the entire Nanocomp team and our partners. It is especially meaningful to receive this honor at a time when our company is building new growth and preparing for the next investments, says Veli-Pekka Leppänen, CEO of Nanocomp Oy Ltd.
