Month of Photonics

November is a month that brings together companies, researchers, teachers and students with our very first Month of Photonics. Whether working in photonics and high technology or studying in the field or just being curious about photonics, many events held during the month offer something for everyone.
Month of Photonics is a joint effort of many actors: Photonics Finland, Spark Joensuu entrepreneurship environment, Karelia University of Applied Sciences, Riveria, University of Eastern Finland, Business Joensuu and the Flagship of Photonics Research and Innovation (PREIN).
The program will include:
– Photonics Applications lecture series (every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) bringing nearly 20 business guests to Spark Joensuu Science Park. The course will be held this year as a series of hybrid lectures hosted by Professor Jyrki Saarinen in UEF’s Joensuu campus and online in Microsoft Teams. The course is organised in collaboration with PREIN flagship and Photonics Finland. The focus in the lectures is on practical applications of photonics from an industrial point of view. Key professionals from various companies give presentations regarding their businesses, technologies & applications in 30-minute lectures, and participants can discuss the themes further in the following 15-minute Q&A sessions. A total of 22 companies are invited, each from a distinct sub field of photonics. The lectures will be given in English, and streamed online via Microsoft Teams. – A three-day Epic Challenge hackathon, 4.-8.11.2021 (Thu, Fri & Mon). The topic of the hackathon is improvement of rescue operations during forest fire. Each day, the program will start at 14:00 and last until 18:00. The hackathon will take place at Joensuu Science Park. Details on registration and awards HERE
