ODF’28 – International Optics & Photonics Conference Coming to Finland

Photonics Finland is pleased to announce that the International Conference on Optics-Photonics Design and Fabrication (ODF) will be held in Finland, Joensuu 8-11 May 2028.

ODF is a well-established international conference, organized biennially since 1998 by the Optics Design Group (ODG) of the Optical Society of Japan (OSJ) – the Japanese counterpart of European Optical Society (EOS). The conference brings together industry R&D experts, applied researchers, and engineers working at the forefront of optical design and fabrication. The driving forces behind the conference are some of the biggest Japanese photonics companies, such as Canon Inc., Hitachi, Ltd., Konica Minolta, Inc., Nikon corporation, Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. and Panasonic Corporation.

ODF serves as an international forum for exchanging ideas and practical achievements in areas such as:

  • optical design and simulation
  • optical components, devices and systems
  • optical theory, software and DOE’s
  • micro-optics, diffractive optics, thin films, waveguides and MEMS
  • lasers, fiber communications and information optics
  • optical storage, optical lithography
  • microscopy, displays and emerging photonics technologies

The conference has a strong engineering focus, making it particularly relevant for companies, applied university research and industry–academia collaboration. ODG itself represents both individual experts and corporate members, reinforcing the practical, industry-driven nature of the event.

ODF’28 will be jointly organized by Photonics Finland together with ODG/OSJ, in collaboration with EOS, the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and the city of Joensuu.

ODG’s decision to host ODF’28 in Joensuu is a testament for the region’s recognized expertise in optics and its strong ecosystem of photonics research and innovation, making Joensuu an excellent match for the event.

We will share more information as the preparations progress. ODF’28 offers a unique opportunity for Finnish and international photonics companies and researchers to connect, collaborate and showcase cutting-edge optical engineering.
