The year 2027 offers exciting international opportunities for Finnish photonics companies looking to strengthen their global presence, meet new customers, and build strategic partnerships. Photonics Finland is planning to organize two Finnish Pavilions at key industry events: OPIE 2027 in Japan and Laser World of Photonics 2027 in Germany. Registration for both pavilions is now open, and we encourage companies to secure their participation as early as possible.
The Finnish Pavilion concept provides companies with a cost-effective and visible way to participate in world-leading exhibitions. Photonics Finland manages the practical arrangements, booth construction, and pavilion branding, allowing participating companies to focus on what matters most: showcasing their innovations and creating new business opportunities.
OPIE 2027: Access Japan’s Advanced Photonics Market
The Optics & Photonics International Exhibition (OPIE) will take place in Yokohama, Japan in April 2027. OPIE is the largest dedicated photonics exhibition in Japan and serves as a central meeting point for industry, academia, and research organizations focused on optics, lasers, infrared and ultraviolet technologies, optical communication, imaging, and photonics-enabled applications.
Unlike many global trade fairs, OPIE is highly focused on the Japanese market and technical excellence. The event attracts engineers, researchers, and technology specialists interested in in-depth technical discussions and practical solutions. Companies participating in OPIE benefit from direct access to Japan’s industrial and research ecosystem and gain opportunities to develop partnerships in one of the world’s most advanced technology markets.
Photonics Finland is preparing a turnkey Finnish Pavilion that will offer participating companies a strong national presence and shared visibility. In parallel, Business Finland is expected to support delegation activities and company visits, helping participants maximize the value of their trip to Japan.
Laser World of Photonics 2027: Europe’s Leading Photonics Marketplace
The second major exhibition opportunity will be Laser World of Photonics 2027, taking place in Munich, Germany, from 22 to 25 June 2027. Widely recognized as Europe’s most important photonics trade fair, the event attracts global technology leaders, customers, investors, and research organizations from across the value chain.
For Finnish companies looking to expand internationally, Laser World of Photonics provides an unparalleled platform for networking, lead generation, market intelligence, and visibility. The Photonics Finland Pavilion significantly reduces the workload for participating companies while ensuring a professional, high-impact presence at the exhibition.

No Finnish Pavilion at Photonics West 2027
At the same time, Photonics Finland must share an important update regarding SPIE Photonics West 2027 in San Francisco.
For the first time in over a decade, Photonics Finland will not organize a Finnish Pavilion at Photonics West. This decision follows extensive discussions with member companies and reflects changing market conditions rather than any reduction in the importance of the event itself.
Photonics West remains one of the world’s most influential photonics exhibitions and a key venue for business development, technology launches, scientific exchange, and international collaboration. Finnish companies have built strong visibility and valuable networks at the event over many years.
However, participation costs have increased steadily over the past years, making exhibition attendance significantly more expensive for small and medium-sized companies. At the same time, the discontinuation of Business Finland’s Exhibition Explorer funding instrument in autumn 2025 has reduced the financial support previously available for international trade fair participation.
These developments have had a direct impact on companies’ ability to commit to large overseas exhibitions. With a limited number of registrations received for the 2027 pavilion, organizing a cost-efficient national stand was unfortunately no longer feasible.
While the absence of a Finnish Pavilion at Photonics West is disappointing, Photonics Finland remains fully committed to supporting the international growth of Finnish photonics companies. By concentrating our collective efforts on OPIE in Japan and Laser World of Photonics in Germany, we aim to ensure that Finnish companies continue to benefit from strong international visibility, meaningful customer connections, and new export opportunities in 2027.
Registrations for the Photonics Finland Pavilions at OPIE 2027 and Laser World of Photonics 2027 are open. Secure your participation now and join the Finnish photonics community on the global stage.
